Adiabatic Nano - Focusing of Plasmons by Sharp Metallic Wedges
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper demonstrates the possibility of efficient adiabatic nano-focusing of plasmons by a sharp triangular metal wedge. Geometrical optics approach and the approximation of continuous electrodynamics are used for the analysis. In particular, it is demonstrated that both the phase and group velocities of an incident anti-symmetric (with respect to the magnetic field) plasmon tend to zero at the tip of the wedge, and the plasmon adiabatically slows down, eventually dissipating in the metal. Typically, the amplitude of the plasmon significantly increases near the wedge tip, but this increase is finite even in the absence of dissipation in the metal. The dependence of the local field enhancement near the tip on structural parameters, dissipation in the metal, angle of incidence, etc. is analyzed in this paper. It is also shown that an anti-symmetric film plasmon can effectively be guided by a triangular metal wedge, forming a wedge plasmon mode that is localized near the tip of the wedge and propagates along this tip. A new existence condition for these localized wedge plasmons is derived and discussed. PACS codes: 78.67.–n; 68.37.Uv; 73.20.Mf

Metallic nano-particles for trapping light
We study metallic nano-particles for light trapping by investigating the optical absorption efficiency of the hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film with and without metallic nano-particles on its top. The size and shape of these nano-particles are investigated as to their roles of light trapping: scattering light to the absorption medium and converting light to surface plasmons. The optical ...
متن کاملFocusing surface plasmons with a plasmonic lens.
We report the focusing of surface plasmon polaritons by circular and elliptical structures milled into optically thick metallic films or plasmonic lenses. Both theoretical and experimental data for the electromagnetic nearfield is presented. The nearfield is mapped experimentally using nearfield scanning optical microscopy and plasmonic lithography. We find that the intensity at the focal point...

Embedding nonlinear media in the slit region of metallic nano-optic lens is proposed as a new method of active modulating the output beam. Two important phenomena, beam deflection and focusing, have been studied in detail. A developed Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method has been performed to account for the nonlinear response. The simulated results show that the deflection angle and foc...

We apply the conformal transformation technique to study systematically a variety of singular plasmonic structures, including two-dimensional sharp edges, rough surfaces, and nanocrescents. These structures are shown to exhibit two distinct features. First, different from a planar metallic surface, the surface plasmon excitations on the examined structures have a lower bound cutoff at a finite ...
متن کاملPlasmonic black gold by adiabatic nanofocusing and absorption of light in ultra-sharp convex grooves.
Excitation of localized and delocalized surface plasmon resonances can be used for turning excellent reflectors of visible light, such as gold and silver, into efficient absorbers, whose wavelength, polarization or angular bandwidths are however necessarily limited owing to the resonant nature of surface plasmon excitations involved. Nonresonant absorption has so far been achieved by using comb...
